Avondale Estates 30002 (City of Avondale Estates, DeKalb county) The City of Avondale Estates is a small municipality approximately 1 mile east of the City of Decatur in DeKalb county (7 miles east of Downtown Atlanta). Avondale Estates is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is significant as the only documented example of an early 20th century planned new community in the southeastern United States. Developed in the 1920s, Avondale Estates was intended to incorporate residential, commercial and recreational components. The oldest parts of Avondale Estates were designed to resemble an English village and are predominated by Tudor architecture. There are a number of recreational amenities in and near Avondale Estates, including beautiful Lake Avondale Park. Nearby Avondale Park features a swimming pool, tennis courts, and playground, and Midway Park is a 22-acre recreation area maintained by DeKalb County with multi-use fields, tennis courts, a swimming pool, recreation center, playground, picnic area and trails. Avondale Estates has a charming business district located at the intersection of Clarendon Road and Avondale Road. You'll also love the close proximity of the City of Decatur, with its many wonderful shops and restaurants. The nearby DeKalb Farmers Market is also a fantastic area amenity. It's a great place to buy fresh fruits and vegetables, baked goods, and exotic delicacies from around the world.
