Cabbagetown 30316
(City of Atlanta, Fulton county)

Cabbagetown is Atlanta's oldest industrial settlement. [Cabbagetown history.] It grew up around the old Fulton Bag & Cotton Mill (which was converted to lofts several years ago) and the entire neighborhood is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [More information.] Cabbagetown is a vibrant neighborhood with an active neighborhood association and a strong sense of community. Many of the century-old homes have been restored or renovated and the neighborhood hosts periodic events including an annual "Chomp and Stomp" (chili cook-off with music and art) as well as a "Christmas Crawl" (progressive dinner for neighborhood residents). There's a neighborhood running group that meeds every Thursday night at the Milltown Arms Tavern (with beers after the run), and a neighborhood gardening club. The new community center offers classes including yoga for adults and ballet classes for pre-schoolers.

Cabbagetown is home to a growing number of excellent restaurants, including Agave and Redfish; Village Pizza (great hand-tossed pizza with delivery on an old style bicycle for Cabbagetown residents); Mill Town Arms Tavern (Irish style); Carroll St. Cafe (serves a great brunch); and 97 Estoria. Nearby Six Feet Under serves fabulous seafood and overlooks historic Oakland Cemetery. New commercial and mixed used developments are being built in the vicinity as well. This location is convenient to both the new Edgewood Retail District (which has 500,000 sq. ft of retail with major national chains including: Target, Lowe's, Best Buy, Kroger, and Office Depot) and Glenwood Park, which will offer a mix of shops and restaurants. It is also convenient to Little Five Points, Virginia-Highland, East Atlanta Village, and the Downtown Atlanta central business district.

The neighborhood is adjacent to historic Oakland Cemetery, which was developed as a Victorian "garden cemetery" and is a beautiful community greenspace that offers tours and hosts special events including an annual easter egg hunt and a Victorian festival. In addition to Oakland, there are a number of excellent public parks and recreation venues in the area, including a brand new neighborhood park just around the corner from this home. [More Info. and USA Today article.] Nearby Grant Park is a historic 130+ acre park less than a mile down Boulevard. It is Atlanta's oldest surviving city park and home to Zoo Atlanta and the Cyclorama. Park amenities include a swimming pool, 2 playgrounds, ballfields, tennis and basketball courts, a recreation center, special events pavillions and picnic shelters. The Grant Park Conservancy is a nonprofit community group whose mission is to protect and preserve this wonderful public resource. The house is also just a few minutes from Turner Field, Lakewood Amphitheatre, Philips Arena, and CNN Center.

Cabbagetown is served by MARTA bus routes and is within walking distance of the King Memorial rail station. The neighborhood is very convenient to I-20, and I-75/85 is just a little over a mile away. Children in this neighborhood attend Atlanta Public Schools including: Cook Elementary; King Middle; and Southside High (with an information processing magnet program). The neighborhood is also home to the new Tech High School a public charter school, which offers a full curriculum with a focus on math, science, and technology.
