Echo Lake 30345 (Unincorporated DeKalb county) Echo Lake and Echo Woods are mid-century suburbs in the Briarcliff Road/Shallowford Road area of unincorporated DeKalb county. In addition to the original homes (primarily large ranch and traditional 2-stories), this area features a great deal of high-priced new construction (many priced over $1 million). The centerpiece of the Echo Lake neighborhood is Echo Lake. It's a lovely spot for residents to walk, canoe, or fish. [See the lake.] This area is also home to a number of private swim and tennis clubs that residents may join. The Echo Ridge Recreation Club is located very nearby and features a 25 meter pool and 4 lighted tennis courts. The Briarcliff Woods Beach Club is also located nearby. Within a 3 mile radius, there are also several public parks operated by DeKalb County, including Dresden Park, Briarwood Park and Recreation Center, and the DeKalb Tennis Center at Mason Mill Park. [More about DeKalb County Parks.] This is a very convenient part of town -- close to Emory, CDC, VA hospital, DeKalb Medical Center, Northlake and Buckhead, with easy access to I-85, I-285, and GA 400 -- and because it's in unincorporated DeKalb county, residents pay lower property taxes! There is convenient shopping at the many nearby malls and shopping centers, including Oak Grove Shopping Center, Northlake Mall, Williamsburg Village Shopping Center, Shallowford Plaza (with new Publix!), Toco Hills Shopping Center, Lenox Square Mall and Phipps Plaza, Loehmanns Plaza, Northeast Plaza, Lindbergh Plaza, and North DeKalb Mall. Children in this neighborhood attend either Oak Grove Elementary School or Hawthorne Elementary (a communications and technology theme school for grades pre-k to 5), Henderson Middle (6th-8th grade with high interest math and science magnet programs), and Lakeside High (a high-scoring school for grades 9-12). Homes in the Oak Grove attendance zone generally command higher prices. The area is also convenient to Kittredge Elementary, a public magnet school for high achievers in grades 4-6.
