Edgewood 30307/30317 (City of Atlanta, DeKalb county) Edgewood is a historic neighborhood just south of Candler Park, north of East Atlanta, west of Kirkwood, and east of Reynoldstown. This neighborhood straddles three zip codes (30307, 30317, and 30316) and 2 counties (Fulton and DeKalb). The neighborhood is in a state of revitalization spurred on, in part, by the development of the new Edgewood Retail District off Moreland Avenue near Little Five Points. It includes many national chains (such as Lowes, Office Depot, Best Buy, Kroger, and others) as well as smaller retailers and restaurants. Until the ERD opened in 2005, residents of the intown neighborhoods generally had to make a trek out to the 'burbs to shop, but the ERD has brought a lot of shoppers to Edgewood and has stimulated residential development as well. Older bungalow-style homes are prevalent throughout this area (which was originally an independent city that was annexed by Atlanta many years ago). The quality and level of renovation of these homes still varies widely with some having been beautifully updated in recent years and others ready for renovation. There is also new infill construction on vacant lots. Edgewood is conveniently located with regard to transportation. The neighborhood has a MARTA rail station (Edgewood/Candler Park) and has easy access to I-20 and I-75/85. Recreation venues in the area include DeKalb Memorial Park, Coan Park, Candler Park, and Brownwood Park. In addition to the Edgewood Retail District, other nearby business districts can be found at: Little 5 Points, Candler Park, and East Atlanta Village. Children in Edgewood generally attend Whitefoord Elementary, Coan Middle and Crim or Grady High School. Children in the 30317 zip code are also eligible to apply to Drew Charter School in East Lake.
