Inman Park 30307
(City of Atlanta, DeKalb county)
Inman Park was developed at the end of the 19th century as Atlanta's first garden suburb and was home to many of the city's most influential families in its early years. Since the 1970s, the neighborhood has experienced a renaissance and has become one of the most sought after intown neighborhoods. Many of the city's finest examples of Victorian architecture are found in this neighborhood, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. [More info.]
The Little Five Points business district is located on the eastern side of Inman Park. L5P is Atlanta's answer to New York's Greenwich Village. It has a funky, alternative vibe and wide variety of restaurants, shops, and arts venues. Highland Avenue is another business corridor that runs through Inman Park. At its intersection with Elizabeth Street, there are several restaurants and businesses and, continuing south along Highland, you'll find one of the neighborhood's newest amenities -- Inman Park Village -- a multi-use development that includes residential components, office space, and 20,000 sq. ft. of street-friendly retail and restaurants. This stretch of Highland Avenue (roughly from Elizabeth Street to Freedom Parkway) was previously home to hulking industrial buildings and is now in a state of rapid redevelopment.
Inman Park boasts a MARTA rail station (the Inman Park/Reynoldstown station) off DeKalb Avenue as well as super easy access to the interstate system (I-75/85, I-20, and GA 400) via Freedom Parkway at the northern end of the neighborhood. The neighborhood has a number of excellent recreation facilities including charming Springvale Park, Freedom Park and The Path (intown's wonderful multi-use urban trail, which is used by runners, walkers, skaters, and others), as well as the Inman Park Pool (members only).
Inman Park residents also have convenient access to the amenities of surrounding neighborhoods, including the parks and business district in Candler Park; the business districts in Poncey-Highland and Virginia-Highland; Piedmont Park and restaurants in nearby Midtown; the Edgewood Retail District in nearby Edgewood; the revitalizing businesses of historic Sweet Auburn; and downtown Atlanta's central business district.
Children in Inman Park attend City of Atlanta public schools, including: Mary Lin Elementary, Inman Middle, and Grady High School. Inman Park is also home to the Inman Park Cooperative Preschool, which was the first cooperative preschool in Georgia when it was founded in 1981 and is still going strong.
