Morningside/Lenox Park 30306/30324
(City of Atlanta, DeKalb county)

Morningside is one of Atlanta's most picturesque intown neighborhoods. Developed in the 1920s, the predominant architecture of the neighborhood is a brick Tudor-style bungalow. Many of these homes have been significantly renovated and expanded over the years and they can command very high prices. The neighborhood boasts a number of lovely neighborhood parks (including Sussex Park, Sunken Garden Park, Lenox-Wildwood Park, and Sidney Marcus Park) and it is very convenient to nearby Piedmont Park (Atlanta's largest park and home to many festivals and special events).

Morningside is primarily a residential neighborhood with few business districts of its own. The closest business districts include Highland Avenue (the shopping district at University Drive is inside Morningside and the business district continues south through Virginia-Highland and beyond), Amsterdam Walk, Sage Hill Shopping Center, Zonolite Road, and Ansley Mall.

Morningside is bounded on the south by Virginia-Highland (at Amsterdam Avenue) on the east by Druid Hills (at Briarcliff Road) on the north by Ansley Park (at Piedmont Avenue) and on the west by Midtown (at Monroe Drive). Both the Lenox Park and Johnson Estates subdivisions are frequently lumped in with Morningside. Lenox Park has a larger number of more recent homes, including some large ranch homes. Johnson Estates (off Johnson Road north of Rock Springs Road) has an architectural style that's generally more consistent with Morningside although the homes in this section are also somewhat younger than those in Morningside proper.

The Morningside/Lenox Park Association is an active neighborhood association and there's also an active parents' association (the Virginia-Highland/Morningside Parents Association) that organizes play groups for neighborhood kids. Children in Morningside attend City of Atlanta public schools including: Morningside Elementary School (on East Rock Springs Road in the heart of the neighborhood), Inman Middle School (in nearby Virginia-Highland) and Grady High School (in Midtown). Many parents walk their kids to school in this neighborhood.

There are MARTA bus routes through the neighborhood but the closest MARTA rail stations are in nearby Midtown. Likewise, Morningside doesn't have any arts venues within its borders but it is convenient to Callanwolde Fine Arts Center (in Virginia-Highland/Druid Hills) as well as all of Midtown (Woodruff Arts Center, Symphony Hall, High Museum, Fox Theatre, etc.) and everything around Emory University.
