University Heights 30033 (Unincorporated DeKalb county) University Heights is a quiet residential neighborhood of ranch homes located between North Druid Hills Road and North Decatur Road about a mile east of Emory University. Because it's located in unincorporated DeKalb county, you'll pay lower property taxes than comparable nearby properties inside the City of Atlanta or City of Decatur. There are several nearby parks. Medlock Park features sports fields, a new children's playground, and a public swimming pool. Mason Mill Park includes a lake and the excellent DeKalb Tennis Center. W.D. Thomson Park has a multi-use field, basketball and tennis courts, a playground, picnic area and trails. The Clyde Shepard Nature Preserve is a 28 acre wildlife sanctuary. And Glen Lake Park, inside the City of Decatur, has a tennis center, a pool, a basketball court, and several sports fields. Nearby shopping includes Emory Village, Toco Hills Shopping Center, and North DeKalb Mall. At the intersection of Clairmont Road and North Decatur Road, you'll find a Publix grocery store, as well as a number of shops and restaurants. The City of Decatur, with its great shops and restaurants, is just a mile or so down University, and Downtown Atlanta is about 15 minutes away. Other nearby amenities include: Callanwolde Fine Arts Center; Fernbank Forest and the Fernbank Museum of Natural History; the Olmsted Linear Parks (along Ponce de Leon Avenue); Freedom Park; and the PATH -- a multi-use urban trail that is very popular with walkers, runners, cyclists and bladers.
